College 125th anniversary, new bin days, high school demolition, and more
🛍️ Dunfermline City Artisan Market is back on today between 11-15 in St Catherine’s Wynd, near the Abbey.
🎓 Fife College has celebrated its 125 birthday this week. The college traces its origin to Lauder Technical School, which was one of Andrew Carnegie’s numerous gifts to Dunfermline. The institution was first located in Priory Lane and later on New Row. It moved to Halbeath in 1970s; after a series of name changes it merged with Adam Smith College to become Fife College in 2013.
💥 Demolition of old Woodmill high school is to start this week and St Columba’s will follow from 4 November. The schools themselves have relocated to Dunfermline Learning Campus and the council is keen to prevent antisocial behaviour on the abandoned sites.
♻️ New bin calendar comes into effect this week, and for some areas it will result in a change of weekday the collections are done. During the transition period the bin lorries will pick up additional bagged waste within certain limits. Avoid Limmy’s traumatic experience and recheck your collection days on the council website.
📜 Historic Environment Scotland’s Great Big Living History Week kicks off this weekend across multiple venues nationwide. Aberdour Castle and Dunfermline Abbey both are involved at various points.
🛝 Lochgelly Centre is hosting a Fun Day on Wednesday 16th in order to gather opinions from children on what facilities and activities they want to see in the area. The day is broken up into sessions for every local nursery and primary school, and will include arts, crafts and board games. For kids who cannot attend, there is an online survey available instead.
🍔 Five Guys in Fife Leisure Park is finally expected to open tomorrow, almost a year since the original announcement. The burger chain is taking over a spot once occupied by Eastern Buffet and abandoned since 2018.
