Dunfermline Weekly π² 30 July 2023
Edinburgh festivals, cycle road race, Inverkeithing high school replacement, 380-year cottage, Aberdour footbridge reopening and more
π Edinburgh International Festival, Fringe and Tattoo all officially start next Friday 4 August. You can browse festival shows and buy tickets on the Fringe website and the EIF website. As we mentioned last week, additional late trains and all-night trams will be available from 4 to 26 August, making travel between West Fife and Edinburgh for events just a bit easier.
π Inverkeithing Highland Games will be taking place this Saturday, 5 August, at the Ballast Bank playing fields. The event starts with a procession from Civic Centre on High St at 1130am; tickets are Β£10 adults and Β£5 child/concession.
π² UCI Menβs Elite Road Race will pass through southwest Fife next Sunday, 6 August. The race is expected to enter Fife via the Queensferry Crossing around 10am, and will likely draw visitors. Expect rolling road closures along the route of the race on the day, with police motorcycles travelling ahead of the cyclists to stop traffic as needed. Any vehicles parked on the route of the race will be towed, residents and visitors alike.
π« New South & West Fife High School, replacing Inverkeithing HS, has had a planning application published, including a number of site plans and illustrations. The new school is to be located next to the Mowi site and MOD Caledonia in Rosyth.
π A 380-year-old cottage in Culross has been sold for the first time since it was built in 1640. The house has only ever belonged to the same family and retains several historical features, such as the original fireplace and a rare bell-shaped roof.
π Aberdour Harbour footbridge has reopened this week, having been previously destroyed by storm and flood damage in 2020. This finally fills a gap in the Fife Coastal Path which necessitated a detour through the centre of the village.
π¨ Due to significantly improved air pollution levels the council has removed several Air Quality Management Areas, including on Dunfermlineβs high-traffic Appin Crescent.
