Dunfermline Weekly 🦋 5 May 2024
Kids mental health survey, Lochgelly health centre issues, and more
Pretty short one this week - hopefully you are enjoying the slightly longer weekend and the weather stayed at least tolerable.
⛅ Speaking of the weather, STV’s Sean Batty explains what is happening with this year’s unimpressive spring, and how has it been 22 C in Scotland already, except definitely not in Fife.
🦋 You can meet the local moths at Pittencrieff Park this Monday, at a ticketed event run by Fife Coast and Countryside Trust. More details on the Eventbrite page.
📉 Young people in Dunfermline have worse mental health, and are more likely to smoke or gamble than their counterparts from elsewhere in Fife, as per mental health and wellbeing survey conducted in schools. On the other hand city kids have scored higher on physical activity and hobbies, and had lower social media usage and fewer bullying incidents than average.
🎭 Ncuti Gatwa, once of Dunfermline High School, is set to appear in his first National Theatre play, The Importance Of Being Earnest - a comedy by Oscar Wilde. He’s also set to have his likeness appear in Madame Tussauds wax figure museum.
🩺 Lochgelly Health Centre is going to undergo limited refurbishment and repair works. However, funding for a £6m replacement facility has been delayed once again by the Scottish Government. Residents have been campaigning for a new health centre for 14 years, as the existing building is undersized and in poor condition.
